The religion of Islam is inherently environmental. At the Bahu Trust, we believe that preserving the environment is an act of worship, the faith of Islam gives a clear mandate to protect and look after nature.
Imam Training
Imams play a crucial and influential role in the community and can play a significant role in bringing about spiritual inspiration and insight to the daily lives of Muslims. We believe that Imams can motivate the congregation to live more climate friendly lives in order to preserve nature and the environment.
Education
Education is key to a sustainable and successful community. The Bahu Trust has developed environmental training and educational workshops for local community members and faith based organisations.
Plastic Free Campaigns
Whilst eradicating plastics from our everyday lives in not an easy task, the Bahu Trust is committed to reducing its plastic usage as much as possible and educating the community on the dangers of single use plastic.
Campaigning & Advocacy
Standing up for justice is a key part of Islam. To tackle the impacts of climate change, we must stand up for the rights of nature and our environment. The Bahu Trust is involved in a number of campaigns to tackle climate injustices in the UK and around the world.
United Nations
The Bahu Trust has accreditation to the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) of UN Environment and has been awarded ‘Observer Status’ to the Assembly and its subsidiary bodies.
Community Clean Ups
Islam emphasises on both physical and spiritual cleanliness and purification “Cleanliness is half the faith” – Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The Bahu Trust stresses the importance of taking responsibility for the surroundings where we live.
Renewable Energy
Places of worship can have very energy usage. The Bahu Trust has converted to solar energy in a number of its mosques around the country and is exploring other ways to reduce its energy consumption.
