Our pilot maternal project has five distinct areas:
- Drop-in clinic for expecting, pregnant and new mothers
- Baby Bank for essential items
- Increasing knowledge and awareness of reproductive and sexual health
- Development of a toolkit and resources for women
- Creating safe spaces for women to support maternal health and mental wellbeing
Maternal Clinic
This clinic will equip expecting, pregnant and new mothers with the essential knowledge, skills, and tools to safely and successfully enter into motherhood, promoting healthy lifestyles and habits, and providing holistic advice and support to all service users. Trained professionals with expertise in midwifery, women’s reproductive health, and mental wellbeing will be offering both weekly drop-in services and at-home visits to mothers to enable them to feel empowered, informed, and prepared for motherhood. Our clinic will signpost and refer users to NHS services, leaflets and literature, where necessary, to increase uptake of sexual health services and increase engagement with established health services. We will be launching our maternal clinic in early 2025. Watch this space!
Baby Bank
We will be developing a baby bank to provide community members with crucial items necessary for a newborn baby and mother including hygiene and sanitary packs, toiletries, clothing, shoes, nappies and toys. This will encourage families to donate items for sustained use, as well as purchasing new items for those in need.
Toolkits
We hope to collate our learning and best practices related to women’s health, pregnancy and motherhood into a toolkit designed and co-produced with the women at the heart of our community to both uplift and empower them, and demonstrate the importance of co-production and capacity building of the communities we serve, developing a resource made by and for our women.
Safe Space
We will be creating a safe, non-judgmental space for increased dialogue, exchange, learning, and shared practices among our women to build a safe, healthy and resilient sisterhood attached to our centre which will have a lasting impact on our community in building bonds of friendship, solidarity and companionship. This space will allow women to express themselves through the application of different exercises such as painting, journaling, storytelling, writing poetry and exploring other creative practices to support wellbeing.
